Today is 3rd of December 2005. This is Russian newsreel. With these words Ondřej Vavrečka opens probably the most conceptual piece of the Notes from travels undersection. His The news of the day was made during his long term stay in Moscow and it is a result of careful gathering of fragments of images, texts and dialogues. Based on these elements he creates a complicated mosaic of fine impressions, historical connections and absurdity of today’s Russia. The process of shooting itself was marked by series of personal incidents and turnovers but not all of them are that obvious in the final movie (not mentioning that the author shot big part of the movie from his window after he broke his leg and was obliged to stay at home for longer period of time). In Cinepur CHOICE festival Vavrečka will personally introduce moderated DVD version of his film.
